Dr. Robert E. Blackwell earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters of Science degree in Bioengineering from Clemson University in South Carolina. He obtained his medical degree from The Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at University of Tennessee/Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. Following residency, Dr. Blackwell completed a Fellowship in Hand & Upper Extremity Surgery at the University of Texas in San Antonio and has a particular interest in conditions & injuries of the wrist.
Dr. Blackwell is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Surgery of the Hand. His professional memberships include the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, Medical Association of Georgia, Georgia Orthopaedic Society, Georgia Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the Bibb County Medical Society.
Dr. Blackwell is married with three children and enjoys spending time with family, creative design, woodworking, automobiles, and music.
