Dr. Thomas completed his undergraduate education at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Virginia Health Systems. Following residency Dr. Thomas spent a year at Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center completing a Sports Medicine Fellowship.

Dr. Thomas is board certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, a member of the Medical Association of Georgia, the Bibb County Medical Society, Southern Orthopaedic Association, and the Arthroscopy Association of North America where he serves on the communications committee and is an Associate Master Instructor. He has authored multiple book chapters and medical journal articles on the knee, shoulder, and elbow. 

Dr. Thomas is married and enjoys weight training, golf, racquetball, and team sports. He is a team physician for several high schools in the middle Georgia area, and in the past has acted as a team physician for James Madison University, Alcorn State, Delta State, Mississippi College, Jackson State, and University of Virginia. .
