Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR)

OrthoGeorgia is pleased to announce Elliot P. Robinson, MD, will begin offering a highly skilled surgical procedure called Targeted Muscle Reinnervation (TMR) for upper/lower extremity amputees. This procedure improves functional prosthetic control through a novel surgical technique that transfers severed motor nerves to functioning muscles. The newly innervated muscles then act as amplifiers of the amputated nerve signals that improve prosthetic control. The technique also can significantly reduce neuroma pain.

Dr. Robinson will also direct a monthly Amputee Care Clinic at OrthoGeorgia. Through a multidisciplinary approach involving the therapist, prosthetist and surgeon, we can offer patients enhanced functional performance of myoelectric prosthetics. This comprehensive treatment approach begins at the first post op visit and follows patients throughout their entire prosthetic training with the goal to restore independence in activities of daily living and work.

Dr. Robinson and his care team received their TMR training for this program with Hanger Prosthetics and the surgeons at OrthoCarolina where Dr. Robinson did his orthopaedic residency.
