Azar + Walsh Architects’ design for OrthoGeorgia’s Spine and Orthopedic clinic in Macon, Ga., was inspired by the anatomy of a spinal column. The facility’s exterior features a triangular pattern with metal panels in alternating orange colors. In contrast, sections of dark brown brick surround the sections with the triangular pattern, and bright white horizontal and vertical linear elements frame the orange metal and dark brown masonry.

Kamal Azar, AIA, design principal at Azar + Walsh Architects, says, “A major project goal for OrthoGeorgia was to highlight the building in its location as a progressive health care establishment in tune with current trends of technology. The dramatic contrast of the white panels contrasting with its dark brick counterpart gives the building contemporary lines, suggesting its progressive style.”

To construct the spine-inspired, triangular, orange pattern, Kistler McDougall Corp. fabricated and installed 6,750 square feet of Arconic Architectural Products LLC’s Reynobond metal composite material (MCM) in Duragloss 5000 Aciero Corten and 3,300 square feet Reynobond MCM in PPG Industries Inc.’s Duranar Sunstorm Driftwood Mica.

For parapet cornices and canopies, Kistler fabricated and installed 15,900 square feet of Reynobond in Colorweld 500 Frisco White. Wrapping beams at the entry canopy, Kistler fabricated and installed 1,870 square feet of Reynobond in Colorweld 500 Anodic Satin.

On the façade, below the roof parapet, and above the windows, Kistler fabricated and installed 1,540 square feet of Petersen Aluminum Corp.’s corrugated PAC-CLAD 7.2 Panels in Bone White. Additional roof-side fascia was completed with 2,750 square feet of Petersen’s Highline C2 metal wall panels in Bone White.

The three-story, 54,000-square-foot facility houses 44 exam rooms, outpatient surgery rooms, a CT scanning area, diagnostic center, digital x-ray area, durable medical equipment and cast room, MRI scanning area and physical therapy area.
