What are the Causes and Symptoms of Rotator Cuff Tears?

I am Dr. Zaneb Yaseen. I am a fellowship trained sports orthopedic surgeon with OrthoGeorgia. I’m here to talk about rotator cuff tears. Rotator cuff tears are very common. They can happen from overuse injuries or from traumatic events, such as a fall. Often people have pain sleeping on the shoulder, raising the shoulder up, reaching back behind – simple things.

How are Rotator Cuff Tears Treated?

It’s okay to treat this initially with some ice or heat, anti-inflammatories, or topical agents. If it’s still as progressive and lasts, it’s worth trying some simple exercises or stretches at home. If that doesn’t take the symptoms away and you’re struggling or you can’t raise the arm up, it’s worth seeing an orthopedic surgeon, such as a shoulder or sports fellowship trained specialist at OrthoGeorgia. About Dr. Yaseen

Dr. Zaneb Yaseen is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with an additional certification in sports medicine. She works with patients at our Warner Robins office and has a particular interest in arthroscopy of the knee, shoulder, and hip, as well as joint replacement of the shoulder and knee. Dr. Yaseen has been an assistant team physician for a number of collegial and professional sports teams and enjoys taking care of athletes at all levels. She is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society.
