Wood D. Pope, M.D. is a general orthopaedic surgeon with a particular interest in total joint replacements, sports injuries and fracture care, traumatic and arthritic condtions of the foot and ankle. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Pope is a Team Physician for Mercer University Athletes. He serves as Chief of Surgery at Coliseum Northside Hospital and has served as Chair of the Orthopaedic Department at the Medical Center of Central Georgia.
He is an active member of The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons - The Georgia Orthopaedic Society - The Bibb County Medical Society - The Medical Association of Georgia.
Dr. Pope graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in cellular biology where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He completed his internship and residency in Orthopaedics at the University of Tennessee Campbell Clinic. During his residency, he was elected from among his peers to serve as Chief Resident and throughout his academic career Dr. Pope received numerous honors and scholarships. He was a Phi Beta Kappa and recipient of the 1997 Alumni Scholar Award from the Medical College of Georgia.
He is married with three children and enjoys golf, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his friends and family.
