Joseph E. Slappey Jr., M.D. is a general orthopaedic surgeon with particular interests in knee, shoulder, sports medicine, arthroscopy, and total joint replacement. He is board certified with the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Slappey has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery for Mercer University School of Medicine. He has been one of the team physicians for Stratford Academy for a number of years.
Dr. Slappey is known as one of the few physicians now certified in Orthotripsy shock wave treatment using what is known as the Ossatron.
He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, Georgia Orthopaedic Society, Medical Association of Georgia, Bibb County Medical Society and the Southern Orthopaedic Association.
Dr. Slappey earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Georgia Southwestern College in Americus where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He obtained his Medical Degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and completed his internship and a residency in general surgery and orthopaedics at Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta.
He is married with four children and enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time on his farm with family and friends.
