Robert M. Thornsberry, M.D.

Copy_of_Dr_Robert_M_ThornsberryDr. Thornsberry earned his undergraduate degree from Davidson College where he was a three-year letterman and captain of the football team. He received his Medical Degree from The Medical College of Georgia and completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Kentucky in Lexington where he spent a year at the Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children. Following residency Dr. Thornsberry completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Hughston Clinic in Columbus, Georgia under the direction of Doctor Jack Hughston.

Dr. Thornsberry is a general orthopaedic surgeon with particular interests in sports medicine, shoulder, knee,  arthroscopy, and total joint arthroplasty.

Dr. Thornsberry is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the Medical Association of Georgia, the Bibb County Medical Society, the Southern Orthopaedic Association, the Brower Orthopaedic Society and the Hughston Society. He has authored multiple book chapters and medical journal articles on knee surgery, hip surgery and orthopaedic trauma surgery.

Dr. Thornsberry is married and has two daughters. He enjoys golf, weight training, biking, fishing, team sports, and acts as team physician for Stratford Academy, Covenant Academy, Georgia Military College, and Georgia College and State University. In the past, he has acted as team physician at the University of Kentucky, Kentucky State University and Valdosta State University.
