Dr. Blackwell received his medical degree (M.D.), from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. His undergraduate education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters of Science degree in Bioengineering, both from Clemson University, Clemson, South Carolina. Dr. Blackwell completed his general surgery and orthopaedic surgery residencies at University of Tennessee/Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga and a fellowship in Hand Surgery at University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Dr. Blackwell joined the Macon Orthopaedic and Hand Center in 2001.
Dr. Blackwell has a particular interest in wrist injuries, hand/wrist arthritis, nerve compression syndromes and repair/reconstruction after hand injury.

Dr. Blackwell is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and has a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, American Society for Surgery of the Hand, Medical Association of Georgia, Georgia Orthopaedic Society, Georgia Society for Surgery of the Hand and the Bibb County Medical Society.

Dr. Blackwell is married and has three daughters. Outside of medicine, Dr. Blackwell enjoys spending time with family, creative design, woodworking, automobiles and music.
