OrthoGeorgia Pharmacy Steps Up to Improve Patient Safety in Macon

My Dose Alert Helps Patients Take the Right Medication at the Right Time

OrthoGeorgia Pharmacy in Macon is now offering My Dose Alert, an innovative communication tool that helps patients keep track of medications. It is proving to be an invaluable service for people taking multiple medications and for those too busy to keep track of medications and proper dosing.

According to a report by the National Council of Patient Information and Education, 84 percent of patients say that forgetfulness is the major cause of medication non-adherence. This is up from 64 percent just two years ago. Medication therapy has become more prevalent and sophisticated over the years, with people of all ages taking multiple medications. One out of two patients does not take or refill medications as instructed by the prescribing physician, according to the World Health Organization.

Now OrthoGeorgia Pharmacy has a solution so that patients don't have to worry about complicated medication schedules. Through OrthoGeorgia Pharmacy, patients can receive automatic reminders by phone call, text message or email, reminding them of what medications they should be taking and when.

"We are very pleased to be the only pharmacy in the area offering this important service," said Lynn B. Johnson, pharmacist in charge. "We are offering it for free to everyone in the community, not just our current patients. My Dose Alert is very valuable because patients taking medication incorrectly will not get the desired results. Physicians will determine that the medication is not working and may change the medication or the dosage, possibly leading to a more expensive drug or uncomfortable side effects."

OrthoGeorgia Pharmacy opened in August 2009.The staff have over 42 years of experience in pharmacy and can meet almost any medication need. OrthoGeorgia Pharmacy is located at 3708 Northside Drive inside the OrthoGeorgia building (the old Mansour's) and is open Monday thru Friday 8am to 5:30pm. ACR MRI Accreditation

magnetic-resonance smallOrthoGeorgia has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in MRI Services as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR's Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
